Stand Up for a Cause Charity Soirée to Benefit Walking With Anthony

Walking With Anthony, the nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming recovery outcomes of spinal cord injury (SCI) survivors, proudly announces the upcoming Stand Up for a Cause charity soirée, set to take place on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the prestigious Balboa Bay Resort, Newport Beach, CA. The event will feature a star-studded evening of hosted cocktails, decadent dinner, live music, premier live auction, raffles, prizes, and the highly anticipated Fund-A-Cause, where 100% of donations directly benefit Walking With Anthony’s SCI warriors in need of critical support.

The evening program will also honor key figures dedicated to the cause, including NBA icon and Hall of Famer Jerry West who passed away in June, Peter Wilderotter, former president & CEO of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation for their unwavering commitment to improving lives affected by spinal cord injuries. In addition, guests will hear from special guest speaker Mike Barwis, founder & CEO of Barwis Performance Centers.

The Walking With Anthony organization provides SCI survivors not only access to critical rehabilitation but also hope to thousands facing similar challenges. This year alone, the organization has provided grants to more than 30 SCI survivors, offering financial assistance for life-changing therapies, specialized equipment, medical supplies, and/or mental health support. After Anthony Purcell, the organization’s namesake, suffered a devastating spinal cord injury in 2010, Walking With Anthony was founded by Anthony and his mother, Micki Purcell, who refused to accept paralysis as her son’s fate.

"Our journey started with a life-altering moment," said Micki Purcell, Founder of Walking With Anthony. "When Anthony suffered his injury, we were thrust into a world we were not prepared for. Insurance only covered 20 days of rehab, but the road to recovery is long and costly. Walking With Anthony was born out of necessity, and now, it’s our mission to ensure others don't face these challenges alone."

Through the foundation’s relentless advocacy and fundraising, Walking With Anthony ensures that individuals facing spinal cord injuries receive the critical support they need to regain strength, independence, and for some, the ability to walk again. The foundation is dedicated to changing the perception of spinal cord injury recovery as unchangeable.
